Transition issues will be the order of the day at the National Symposium for the Needs of Young Veterans in Chicago October 18-21. It's a great cause - like I remind people every day, also remember that we are out here every day doing our best to help veterans find great careers. Try to apply that philosophy always and I think you're already headed toward a more rewarding life - don't wait around for anyone to help you!
That doesn't mean you have to do everything by yourself - in fact, that usually takes a lot more time and the results are a lot less than what they could be. Instead be active by learning as much as you can about these "problems" on your own and asking for help right when you need it. There's nothing worse than being lumped into a group and treated like you act and think just like everyone else in it - I can't stand articles that give my generation a cute nickname and tell me how I think and what I want out of life. Maintaining the shared values of the military community while also finding out what makes all of us individuals, with amazing stories, strengths, and skills that only we possess, may take longer, but try telling me it's not worth it - or that, in your career search, it isn't going to make you that much more noticeable and hireable. Stand up for yourself or you'll fall for anything, right? Know that we have your back and, no matter where you are or what you're doing, have a great weekend.
